Aesculap blade system

Most of you will be familiar with the A5 dog grooming blade which is the VHS of the grooming world. Lets meet the betamax of the grooming blade world.

And for those that aren’t ancient it was the two competing video tape formats back in the stoneage. VHS was the more popular but betamax was superior. if you want to know why VHS became more popular ….well it involved naked people.

So why is the Aesculap system superior?

So why is it better?

Looking at the picture above going left to right

The comb which is very similar to the A5 blade but it has the socket built in which is more robust.

The cutter is very similar to the A5 cutter but it has a key shaped hole in it which stops the cutter falling out.

The glide which is the black thing is totally different from the A5. It keeps the cutter in position and it also puts the downward pressure on the cutter

The thing to the right is where it gets better. You have a knurled knob with a curved spring under it. This lets you easily adjust the spring tension should it be needed. the other advantage is for cleaning as you can take the knurled knob out completely which removes the spring tension completely and it then lets you slide out cutter with ease.

Another advantage is the blade drive is metal so you don’t need to replace it all the time.

The disadvantage of the Aesculap system is that it is more expensive then the oster A5 system so it never really took off
