Chainsaw sharpening

Chainsaw sharpening has always been a thing that was requested about once a month but I never felt the need to invest in the equipment. Mainly as my own chainsaw was seldom used and was still sharp. Then Storm Arwen came to visit.

We weren’t too badly effected with nothing more than the flashings from the workshop going for a short flight across the garden, but after a quick bit of emergency work with a ratchet strap nothing else was damaged.

The following morning I went for a wander in the forest behind our house and large parts of it where totally flattened.

After storm Arwen

So it appears that alot of chainsaw work is in my near future. I always found using a set of files to sharpen it to be a massive pain so I consulted the underground sharpeners network and then pointed me to the Portek ultra Mk3 which is no longer in production. So I settled on the Mk4 from the same company.

It appears to be a nice enough machine to use but i am only 3 chains in so far after getting my own chains all nice and sharp. Time will tell how well i get on with it. Though i am already confident enough with it to offer chainsaw sharpening which is in our pricelist.

Initially this will be a return to base as i haven’t got the machine incorporated into socket system used by the mobile workshop which can be seen here

Prices are based on the chain coming to use off the machine as to sharpen it in the sharpening machine it needs to be held by the clamp in the machine as this is tighter than your chainsaw bar hence it is more accurate and no chance of chatter. We can remove the chain from the bar and refit it is you want but there will be an extra charge for this.

My ancient Husqvarna 50 greytop which still works fine once you persuade it to actually start. i should really carry out a good service on it.
